You don&#039;t need to assume a buffer size of 512.
Instead of
//code
const unsigned int BUFFER_SIZE = 512;

why not
glGetShaderiv(shader, GL_INFO_LOG_LENGTH ,  &amp;BUFFER_SIZE);

Or something similar.
